The Historical Geographical study of Shida Kartli is connected with the name of the great Georgian Historian and Geographer Vakhushti Batonishvili.  Vakhushti Batonishvili begins his description of Satsitsiano with a description the Gorge of Skra and writes:   "There is a Gorge  Skra in the west of Gorijvari, and it is connected to Mtkvari in the south. To the west of this Gorge is the valley of  Khvedureti.   It comes out  the mountain of Satskhene  and joins Mtkuari from the south.  And these two valleys are fertile and fruitful.... the wine here is the best of all the wines of Kartli, and the most of all the wines of Ateni; The abundance of cattle is gentle.... The air is kind  And the plains of the mountains, as described by the mountain, with fruits and cattle“ (Life of Kartli).  Ekvtime Takaishvili traveled to valley of Skra in 1896, described the historical monuments and together with other materials published.( In the collection, pages 59-65  the Gorge of Skra are separated.) Among the mentioned monuments, the church built  the name of the Virgin Mary  in the village of Koshkebi is important. which consists of two parts - one, the older hall building belongs to the 9th century, and the other building was built by the owners of this valley Shalikashvili, as their own tomb and an inscription was added to it.
