HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF TURKISH SETTLEMENT IN ORDU

Abstract

Ordu is a city located in the Central Black Sea region of Turkey. Ordu has been inhabited since prehistoric times. As a result of archaeological studies traces of settlement were found in different parts of the region. Based on the information obtained from historical sources, the first know community is the Kashkas. After Kashkas, the second community the sttled in the region is the cimmerians. There are different opinions about the origin of the Cimmerians, their homeland and culture. Another element the appeared in the region after the Cimmerians was the Scythians. The existence of the Scythian, who are of Central Asia origin, in thr Black Sea region can be from the work of the Antiquity.

The second phase of Turkish settlement in Ordu begins with the Seljuks. The stay of Çağrı Bey first reached the Turks region in 1016. Subsequently, with the victory of Manzikert in 1071, Anatolia began to come under Turkish rule. The first principalities seen in the Black Sea region were the Danishmends. This region changed hands frequently between the Danishmends and the Byzantine Empire. The dominance of Hacı Emiroğlu, which continued for approximately 150 years in Ordu and its surroundings, was one of the turning points of Turkish settlement in the region. During this period, the entire Ordu was under Turkish domination. With the arrival of the Ottoman Empire to the region, Hacı Emiroğlu left control to the Ottoman Empire.
