Abstract

Theatrical life of Tskhinvali and its surroundings developed progressivly during the period of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia.

Theatrical life is also finding its own place, although the situation is different after the forced establishment of the Soviet government in the country. Chronologically, this picture looks like this: in this period, several drama circles work in Tskhinvali. Tskhinvali no longer has a theatre building, one circle was formed by Gr. Meburnutov in 1926 - "Drama circle located at the South Ossetian Cultural and Political Education Department". The circle included the stage-loving youth of Tskhinvali at that time. The circle would exist until 1929. G. Meburnutov mostly staged plays of contemporary content with this circle. In his stagings, as V. Kasradze writes: "One could feel the hand of a professional director and high ideation". This circle had staged performances at different times of: T. Ramishvili's "The Ease of Misfortune", P. Ireteli's "Kristine", N. Shiukashvili's "The Fool", S. Tsereteli's "Malaia..." and others.

The first workers' drama troupe was founded in Tskhinvali under the leadership of G.Devidze in 1928 and existed for a total of fifteen years, but, most importantly, at the end of 1929 , the construction of a new theatre was completed in Tskhinvali, and the following year, the season of the so-called South Ossetian Drama Theatre opened for the first time.

It can be said that a different stage in the history of the theatrical life of Tskhinvali begins in the 30s.

Here, we need to remind to the readers about the path taken by the Ossetian theatre in Georgia, because its development from this period is mainly connected with Tskhinvali.

"The development of the Ossetian national culture and art took place with the aim of assimilating the progressive tendencies of the Russian and Georgian cultures. In the second half of the 19th century, the interest of the Ossetian intelligentsia in the national literature, art and, in particular, in the theatre deepened.

In the 90s of the 19th century, Kosta Khetagurov wrote a dramatic fantasy - "Dunia", where the problems of women's emancipation were solved based on the best traditions of Russian realistic dramaturgy.
